Certifying and Witnessing Documents – How We Can Help

November 18, 2025 2:21 pm - Categorised in: ,

Did you know that Ellis-Fermor & Negus offer a quick turnaround service for certifying and witnessing documents?

In many transactions where another firm is acting for you, you may be required to see an independent solicitor to certify your identity, prove your address, or confirm that the contents of an application – often referred to as a statutory declaration or statement of truth – are true.

We offer the following services:

  • Certifying proof of identity or proof of address documents: the fee is £5 cash per document. However, if more than 5 documents are required for certification, please do contact one of our offices for a final quote. (Please note: enquiries about certifying Wills or Powers of Attorney are handled separately on a case-by-case basis and may be charged differently.)
  • Statutory Declarations: £5 cash per declaration.
  • ID1 Forms: £75 + VAT per ID1 form.

Please note that we do not provide legal advice in relation to the above services.

Occupier’s Consent Forms

We can also assist with the completing of a document known as an Occupier’s Consent Form. You may be asked to fill in this form if your spouse or partner has applied for a mortgage from a lender to help purchase or refinance a property in their sole name and you intend to live with them at the property in question. The form requires you to meet with an independent solicitor to confirm you understand the risks associated with the lender granting your spouse or partner a mortgage. If you have a family member living with you, then they may be asked to fill in the same form. Our firm’s costs for this are £50 plus VAT.
