In 2006 David was awarded Higher Rights of Audience which enables him to conduct civil litigation as an advocate in all courts up to and including the Supreme Court.

Interests

David is a member of the Pastures Community Church, Stapleford.  He is also a charity trustee. He is married with three grown up children. In his spare time he is a longsuffering supporter of both Derby County FC and Derbyshire County Cricket club.  Somewhat too late in life to have any hope of ever achieving even moderate competence, David has taken up golf.  He also has a lifelong interest in steam trains and rail travel.

Interesting Matters
1. In 1984 – 85 led the legal team that established the right of the Nottinghamshire miners to work on in the national strike in the absence of a democratic ballot, leading ultimately to the appointment of a Receiver to the NUM.

2. Chancery proceedings to establish the rights of farmers who had gone out of milk production to continue to participate in cheese making dairy cooperative.

3. Several high profile ecclesiastical cases before a Provincial Tribunal, the Consistory Court and the Privy Council.

4. The reported case of R v Nottingham County Court, ex parte Byers, which established the correct route for an appeal against wrongful refusal of Special Procedure Affidavits in Divorce proceedings.

5. Employment proceedings to procure the re-instatement of the Deputy Director of Social Services for Nottinghamshire who had been suspended for a private opinion expressed on a TV programme.
